What is meant by the term “college?”

December 30, 2018 Executive Director Leave a Comment

Many people confuse the terms college and university. Although they are closely related, they are in fact very different. I thought it might be a good time to talk about the difference between the two.

Simply put, a college is an institution that provides specialized training and teaching for a particular career path.

A a university is an institution that provides specialized training and teaching that results in a bachelor’s degree or higher. Colleges exist within university systems OR they can exist independently. All of the credentials listed in the chart below are considered part of “going to college.”

If you have questions on how you can go to college, talk to me, Brenda Wolski.
